- Understanding what Windows 95 is and what it does

- Finding out whether you still need DOS

-Deciding why you should bother to use Windows 95

- Finding out whether your computer will work with windows 95

Windows 95 is just another computer program which controls all the parts of the computer. - windows keeps things safe; makes computing a little easier.; Windows purges an ugly computing custom called the DOS command line which lives next to the symbol - C:>

What's DOS? - stands for Microsoft Disk Operating System. It handles the chores needed to make the computer do its traditional computer stuff: shuffle information to and from various parts of the computer and put it on the screen for one to labor over. DOS handles all the dreadful, background computing mechanics so you can concentrat on what's happening on-screen. DOS protects you from that internal computer stuff, but DOS is kind of technical itself.

The newest version of Windows (95) no longer needs DOS. It;s pretty much outgrown it, although W.95 comes with a version of DOS in case you need to run an old DOS program...............SWITCH FROM DOS TO WINDOWS..........

CHAPTER 2

- Learning the names for the gizmos and gadgets on the computer

- Understanding what all those things do.

-Finding out what stuff you need in order to use Windows -Making a list of what computer equipment you have. Microprocessor - The computer's brain is a small chip of silicon buried deep inside the computer's case. gResembling a Girl Scout's Thin Mint with square corners, this flat little wafer is the microprocessor, but nerds tend to call it a central processing unit, or CPU. The computer's microprocessor determines how fast and powerful the computer can toss information around.

Disks and disk drives: the thin slot in the front of the computer - enables you to send and retrieve information from the computer. - in computer parlance.....Copy to or Copy from on the floppy disk.

Write protected disk - has simply been tweaked so that nmobody can copy to ir or delete the files it contains. You can write-protect or un-write protect disks :-

to write-protect a 3 1/2 inch disk, look for a tiny black sliding tab in a square hole in its corner, slide the tab with a pencil or your thumbnail so the the hole is uncovered. To remove the write protection, slide the little black plastic thingy so that the hole is covered up.

The Mouse and that double click stuff:
